We felt that we should get some information out in regards to a 2015 round:

At the moment, it's looking like hosting the exchange this year won't be possible. The mods are up to their eyeballs in university stuff and discussions so far haven't turned up any alternatives we're both happy with. We're really sorry about that, especially since we were looking forward to another round ourselves. Real life is a spoilsport.

What we could do is open up a treat collection for this year where you can leave prompts for people to claim, if you were interested in that? It would be more informal than the actual fest, without the nomination process, and optional with or without deadlines, depending on what you'd prefer.

As most of you will have noticed already, the collection was revealed yesterday. We apologise for the small delay the emergency pinch hit caused, but we tried our best to keep it to a minimum. You can find the full collection here on AO3. Now's also the time to browse the requests and see if there's anything might like to write a treat for. You can also post your old and new prompts to the treat collection for other creators to claim. FYI, there is no time limit or word requirements on the treats!

We hope you are all happy with your gift, and please remember to leave a comment for the creator! Special thanks goes out to our pinch hitters who worked extra hard to make this exchange succeed!

Unless anybody has any objections, the author reveals will happen on Oct 15 as originally planned.

Ladies and gents,

thank you so very much for your patience and your helping hands! Pinch hits have all been claimed and most have already been submitted!

With that in mind, we're steering for reveals on Sunday at 5pm UTC+2 (find out when that is in your time zone).

If you're twiddling thumbs already, you can have a look at the requests or the prompts (of which there aren't many yet) for treat ideas. Treats go here.

If your favourite rare characters are not in the tag set from this year, you can also have a look at last year's prompts, which are still open and looking for treaters to fill them. (You can find 2013's tag set in the Profile, if you intend to post some more prompts.)

We would like to ask you if it would be okay with you to postpone the reveals until the weekend of the 11th/12th? We (and our potential pinch hitters!) could really use the time to get everybody a gift.

If you've written a Dear Author letter with extra details for your requests or to list your likes and dislikes, you can post them here if you like.

Assignments have been sent out. They are due on Oct 1, 2014.

Make sure your letters are publicly viewable, i.e. no longer under an f-lock or anything. If there's still a placeholder instead of a letter in your post, please make your letter available as soon as possible. Some people like to have an early start at their assignments

If you don't think you'll be able to create anything for your assignment, tell us. If you need more information on what your recipient might like, we can try to contact them on your behalf. If that doesn't help, that'd a pity, but not the end of the world. You can default and we'll try to assign a pinch-hitter for your assignment.

If you missed the sign-ups but want to write something anyway, you can either

a) ~~stalk~~ check the Google Group for potential pinch hits, or
b) have a look around the requests, or
c) check out the special prompts that are not part of the official exchange

We'd like to put things up for discussion we received questions about in the last few days:

1) Do you consider the 250 fics rule (or 5% respectively) a fair way to judge character rarity? Should there be no rule at all and just leave it to the participants to nominate what they consider rare?

Our personal thoughts on this matter are that a set number gives especially us mods an objective way to gauge rarity in a multifandom exchange. People can still advocate for a character that has been rejected due to the numbers in a separate post. On the other hand, we know that the tags on AO3 don't indicate major and minor characters (yet), so the numbers for certain characters might be skewered. With no tangible rule at all however, "rare" becomes a rather subjective matter that could open a lot of dicussion and debate. We'd like to hear whether you think the rule is fair or if it should be abandoned (though we don't know yet if it would affect this round since nominations have already started)

2) Do you think we should accept fandoms that only have one nominated character at the end of the nomination period?

Last time, we deleted those fandoms and directed people to the prompt meme where we have no limits imposed on the numbers of characters, but we are willing to reconsider this practise if that's what you'd prefer.

3) How should we treat characters like 'XYZ's mother'? Should characters whose existence we can just conclude (like parents) be allowed? How should we treat quasi-OCs or 'fanon chracters'?

Naturally, if anyone's existence is confirmed by canon by appearing or otherwise described, they are eligible.
