Hello, hello! *sending out an SOS*
What with
rarepairfest just having closed their sign-ups you surely don't need another Rare [x] challenge, right? However, if you do, there will be a few changes this year. We hope you're okay with that. First, the Dates:
Dates
And secondly, this year we will only be checking eligibility on AO3. We hope that works for you. In our experience, ff.net is more relevant for older fandoms, and we wouldn't mind re-populating those on AO3.
Thoughts, suggestions, concerns are all welcome! Hoping to see you play! :)
P.S.: If you can't wait to write anything, why not head over to our Treat Collection? There, you can browse prompts to create fanwork for, and leave your own. Alternately, you can browse the requests from last year. Maybe something sparks your interest. :)
We'll be back on the 1st.

Date: 2014-07-01 02:59 pm (UTC)As for your reply on the FAQ, I'm currently waiting to discuss this with my co-mod. You give us sound reasons and I believe this is a matter worth looking into. However, I'm a little hesitant to change things now that the nominations have already started. It would be unfair to those whose nominated characters I have rejected. The 250 fanwork rule gives us mods, who don't know most fandoms, an objective way of gauging the rarity of a character.
That is what worked for us last year, because we were obviously just starting out and didn't expect much participation. But since we are both inexperienced, and most of our participants know better what works for them in exchanges than we do, we are of course willing to accommodate them.
In the meantime, I can only say that if checking rarity is too much for you (and I agree, it is taxing) you can still nominate your characters and hope the numbers aren't against them. Last year, a lot of people did that too. We gave them the opportunity to debate rejections, but no one used that. Only one appproval was debated, because AO3 put it in the wrong fandom.
In any case, we thank you for your input, and hope it won't take us too long to arrive at some sort of conclusion.

Date: 2014-07-01 07:11 pm (UTC)But the nomination period began today. There's plenty of time to re-nominate fandoms/characters/ships right now. If you have the list of fandoms/characters/ships you rejected, you could post that list to the communities and ask people to re-nominate them. That's how I knew all of my nominations were rejected; the mod posted a list of ships she'd rejected.
All of my nominations had been rejected. I got one ship re-nominated but I had nominated a lot of ships. And I couldn't go through the same process of convincing her that all of my rare ships were in fact rare.
So, I want to nominate characters but what do I do if they're rejected again?
